Outreach to Refugee, Immigrant, and Migrant (RIM) Populations
Adderlin Bailey
Adderlin Bailey is the State Refugee Health Coordinator at the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). In her role, Adderlin Bailey works with community agencies to coordinate resources for medical services and increase access to health targeted programs for refugees living in Rhode Island. She oversees ORR-funded health related services in the state. She is also the point lead on RIDOH’s Culturally Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) training which provides support to providers, and health related professionals.
Prior to her position as the State Refugee Health Coordinator, Adderlin spent almost two years as a communications and translation specialist for the COVID-19 response team at RIDOH. She has a Master’s in Public Health with a focus in health policy and management. Adderlin has over ten years of dedicated experience in program and operations management and has worked extensively with non-profit organizations serving underserved populations, including the elderly, refugees, and immigrant communities.
Khalid Alwan
Job title or function
Khalid Alwan, Medical Case Manager, Dorcas International Khalid Alwan came to the United States from Iraq through a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) in 2015, after working with the U.S Army in his home country. Initially Khalid worked as an interpreter at Dorcas International, but soon took on a full-time role as a Case Manager then as Medical Case Manager, working with refugee and immigrant clients. In this current role, he assists with medical appointments, conducts health service orientations, assists with child school enrollment, and advocates for clients’ medical needs, especially within 30 days upon arrival. He works closely with DHS to ensure clients receive Medicaid and works with the Department of Health when clients apply for their Green Cards. Khalid is certified as a Community Health Worker, following a two-year training inside and outside of Dorcas International.
Dr. Omar Bah
Job title or function
Dr. Omar Bah is the Founder and programs director of the Refugee Dream Center. He is a torture survivor, former journalist and refugee from The Gambia. Bah is also the author of the book, Africa’s Hell on Earth: The Ordeal of an African Journalist. He is currently an adjunct professor of clinical psychology at William James College, and teaches Global Mental Health Fundamentals at Harvard Medical School’s program in refugee trauma.
Aline Binyungu
Job title or function
Aline Binyungu, a former refugee from DRCongo has dedicated her life to helping women and girls. She is co-founder of Women's Refugee Care, along with her husband, Clement Shabani. This is an organization dedicated to supporting refugee families primarily from East Africa.
